Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines in Bay Area
Mike Villines

Mike Villines was elected in 2004 to represent the 29th Assembly District, which includes Madera, Fresno, and nearby communities.

Previously Villines served Gov. Pete Wilson, first in advance, and later in the Department of Fish and Game reforming burdensome environmental issues. He also served as chief of staff to State Sen. Chuck Poochigian, and owned his own small business. A graduate of CSU, Fresno, he holds a BA degree in political science. Mike and wife Christina live in Clovis with their three children.

Recognizing his strong negotiating skills and his ability to lead a united Republican caucus, his colleagues chose Villines in November 2006 to serve as Assembly Republican Leader. The Leader provides direction for the Republican Caucus. With his leadership team, he plans Republican legislative strategy. He also serves as chief negotiator for Assembly Republicans, crafting solutions to the critical problems facing our state.

Improving California’s business climate, reducing the tax burden, and restoring common-sense solutions and accountability to state government are Assemblyman Villines’ top legislative priorities. The Orange County Register recently lauded his fiscal discipline stating, “it’s good to see somebody, at least, is sticking up for the taxpayers and insisting on a balanced budget.”

Assemblyman Villines will be speaking Monday, March 5 to the CWLA Bay Area annual meeting.

The Bay Area will host a number of special guests in March. Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines makes his first Bay Area appearance at the annual meeting of the California Women’s Leadership Association on March 5 in San Francisco.
