Jim Davis – Sunnyvale City Council

For 25 years it has been Jim Davis’ job to protect and serve the citizens of Sunnyvale.  He says he’s not done yet.  Having retired as a Public Safety officer, he sought election to the city council.

Jim Davis was recognized as Sunnyvale’s Officer of the Year in 2009.  Prior to his service in Sunnyvale, he worked 11 years with the San Jose Airport Police.

Sunnyvale’s unusual Public Safety Department manages both police and fire functions, and officers are trained for both, so Davis has also worked as a fire fighter.

To familiarize himself with City Council protocol, he has attended City Council sessions steadily for two years.  Additionally, he has gone to all budget hearings, workshops and issue study sessions.

Jim Davis has also been active in his community.  He has been a member of the Sunnyvale Kiwanis Club since 2001, where he has judged posters for the Fire Safety contests, participated in road clean up, and helped raise funds for pediatric trauma patients.

Jim Davis has advised the Homestead High School Key Club since 2003 and helped them with projects such as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Caroling for Cans at Christmas, and Hands on the Arts.

Jim has assisted the Sunnyvale Middle School Builders Club since 2003 in their fundraising efforts, cooking for firefighters, and conducting beach cleanups.

Jim was born, raised and educated in Santa Clara County, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from San Jose State University.
