Foster City City Council candidate Steve Okamoto won big on November 8, coming in as the top voter getter among six candidates.
He had a strong walking campaign. “I really enjoyed walking the neighborhoods and talking to the city’s residents about the issues they cared about,” Okamoto said.
Okamoto received bipartisan endorsements, including all the current council members. His effort also received active support from the San Mateo County Republican Party.
Steve Okamoto has lived in Foster City for 33 years. He was a member and chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee and inducted into the Sports Wall of Fame for his 22 years as manager and umpire with Little League.
He did his homework and has attended all Council and budget study sessions since deciding to run. He believes it is important that new members be knowledgeable about the City’s finances and prepared to assume the role quickly.
Steve is retired and can dedicate his time to the position. His focus is making sure that streets are safe, seniors are served, and children and families enjoy a good quality of life in Foster City.
Because both his son and daughter were raised in Foster City, he is familiar with the Foster City school system as well. He will use this knowledge to his advantage when dealing with education and youth related issues.
Okamoto graduated from Berkeley in 1963 with a degree in Business, and he earned his Chartered Financial Consultant designation in 1984. He has 38 years experience as a financial planner and 10 years fundraising for the American Cancer Society.
Steve looks forward to applying this knowledge of business and finance to assist the city.
